Pearl is a sixteen-year-old vampire... fond of blood, allergic to sunlight, and mostly evil... until the night a sparkly unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn. Oops.
Her family thinks she was attacked by a vampire hunter (because, obviously, unicorns don't exist), and they're shocked she survived. They're even more shocked when Pearl discovers she can now withstand the sun. But they quickly find a way to make use of her new talent. The Vampire King of New England has chosen Pearl's family to host his feast. If Pearl enrolls in high school, she can make lots of human friends and lure them to the King's feast -- as the entrees.
The only problem? Pearl's starting to feel the twinges of a conscience. How can she serve up her new friends—especially the cute guy who makes her fangs ache—to be slaughtered? Then again, she's definitely dead if she lets down her family. What's a sunlight-loving vamp to do?-from Goodreads

Want to know what I'm most looking for in my reading selections?
Originality.
I feel like lately I've been reading the same books over and over again, just with different characters. It starts to get old after awhile. That's why when a book comes along with something new and exciting, it's like a breath of fresh air.
That's what Drink, Slay, Love was for me. It was a paranormal book, but sometimes it read like a contemporary. There were things I wasn't suspecting and characters I loved and hated.
Pearl was a very different kind of vampire. In the beginning she felt no remorse for anything she did. This was her lifestyle and she was happy about it. Humans were just snacks to her, yet she was still so likeable. Usually when I read books about vampires either they hate themselves for being what they are, or they are so terrible that they're the bad guys. Pearl was truly unique. She becomes even MORE unique throughout the story, but of course, I won't spoil anything for you. :)
Then there's the humor...There was talk of Snuggies, Twilight, Molly Ringwald movies...and I'm sure even more than I can remember. It was light, but still had that edge of danger as Pearl and her new friends tried to save the day.
All in all, Drink, Slay, Love was a great addition to my shelves and suggest anyone who loves paranormal, but wants something with a twist to pick it up!
Oh, and PS- There are unicorns...and talk of pooping rainbows.
Originality.

Great review, I totally want to read this! I agree, so many books lately (I've especially noticed with YA) are repetitive and just variations on the same story. I'm craving originality too.
